Growing up in suburban Michigan, Mike excelled in sports, academics, and the arts all through his younger years. He graduated from high school and attended Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, focusing on 18th century African-American history, religious studies, and political science.
After graduation, Mike moved to Midtown Detroit and began pursuing a Master of Arts in History from Wayne State University. His experiences in Wayne State's graduate school quickly led him to forego his History studies and focus on Education, in which he earned a Master of Arts in Secondary Teaching Methodologies.
Mike began his student teaching experiences at Consortium College Preparatory High School, and University Preparatory High School in Midtown during the spring of 2007. After a year of student teaching, he was selected as the AmeriCorps Public Allies Service-Learning Teaching Fellow at Eagle Rock School & Professional Development Center in Estes Park, CO. After his fellowship, Mike moved to Philadelphia to be on the founding team of El Centro de Estudiantes, a re-engagement high school in the city's Kensington neighborhood.
Mike has spent the past 5 years at AIM Academy, a small, independent, college-prep school for students with language-based learning disabilities. The 2015-16 school year marks his second year as the school's first College & Career Counselor. His practice is focused on researching and connecting with colleges that are committed to supporting their student's learning from admission to graduation, making responsible recommendations to AIM's students, and helping students and parents effectively navigate the increasingly tumultuous terrain of college admissions.
Mike is an avid learner, interested human, coffee drinker, and aspiring Educational Leader. You can find him riding his moped in the hills of northwest Philadelphia in the early hours of the day.
